Gessler Top GOP Challenging Hickenlooper

From The Washington Examiner

Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler now has a slight edge against the rest of the Republican field of candidates vying to challenge Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper in 2014.

According to a new Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday, Gessler is within a 6-percentage-point margin among registered voters with 40 percent support compared with Hickenlooper, with 46 percent.

Gessler's closest Republican rival, former Rep. Tom Tancredo, is down nine percentage points to Hickenlooper, 39 percent to 48 percent.

"We have communicated a clear vision and a common-sense conservative message," Gessler said in a statement to the Washington Examiner in response to the polling results. "That is why leaders all across Colorado, including scores of county commissioners, legislators, mayors and business leaders are supporting our campaign. Voters value the leadership, share the vision and understand that we have what it takes to defeat an incumbent governor."
